This is amazing, love the style of it, the pixel with 3D backgrounds is a great aesthetic. Would love to see a longer, full game with this style and battle system, even if the scenario was different; though you could probably pull off one in this world if you developed the plot to fit it. Maybe in the lab where Lamu's dad worked? That'd be wicked. Definitely can't wait to see what else you make!
Great job ! Very original scenario. Just a little problem : I've been stuck during the second fight. I can't do anything. Just stuck and no button were responding.
I mention it towards the end of the video but honestly, I like everything about this. There was a part... with a certain model... that scared the absolute heck out of me I couldn't believe it hahaha. Love the models, dialogue, gameplay - super fun! I would have loved a longer game, but it wrapped up well. Definitely looking forward to future games!
Kulu you may not reply but are you planning on making updates for this game like hungry lamu and also are you going to make a third game in this series
Hi thanks... that was terrifying XD um one thing. For some reason backspace didn't get me out of menus it was the [x] key. Not sure if it's just a bug unique to me, but it was initially very frustrating just hitting random keys trying to get out of the character menu.
This was a ton of fun! Well made with an interesting story. I was reckless my first playthrough so I'm very excited to go back in with a plan and take on that jelly >:)
I am good at turn-based combat games. It's easy for me because I plan first before encountering a monster. I'm pretty sure I'm a god at strategy games.
By the way, the dolphin's music is the most unsettling music I've ever come across; the laughing in the background complements it disturbingly well...
Great job! Your work is impressive! I'm eagerly looking forward to another sequel
im pretty sure i looked everywhere?? but i didnt encounter any optional fights... huh?? but its ok this was a fun game the jumpscares scared the hell out of me man
awesome game! had so much fun playing it! would've loved to see more about that angsty scientist dude, seems like a really cool plotline! also, the jellyfish scared the crap out of me dude ;-;
WARNING! maybe spoilers?
what were the other 2 optional fights? I did the bass, the hammerhead, the jelly, the turtle, and the dolphin. Maybe I should've gone back into the first room and found something else there!
I really enjoyed this game alot. My favorite parts were the two main characters and how they interacted with each other. I liked how the fishes were introduced and their designs are very chilling.
The only bug i encountered was a delay during the combat. There were brief moments when the turn didnt end. It seemed to resolve when i tab out of the game but im not sure if it really was that.
I also had a small issue where the combat menu got stuck. Theo was down and the overhead line asked me what theo would do in combat, but the 4 menu options didn't show up. i accidentally solved this issue mid game by tabbing out into another window and the turn resolved itself and restarted at the top of the next round.
I enjoyed this, the visuals were great. Humor was fun and didn't overstay it's welcome, and the ways combat encounters started were all unique and interesting. The dynamic between the characters felt good and I'd like to see them make a return sometime, maybe even in a sequel?
I would consider, though, adjusting the effectiveness of some status effects on enemies. Once I had access to stun and confuse I was able to deal with the rest of the enemies very easily, making the shark encounter the hardest fight of the game despite being only the second one. Maybe confuse should have a lower chance of applying and stun shouldn't last as long, or have a lower chance of missing a turn?
Either way, I enjoyed the experience and it's clear this came from a place of passion.
Looking forward to checking out your next work!
(btw, there's a typo in the item name for "gauze")
thanks for playing! and thanks a lot for the feedback, balancing is definitely something i need to take the time to work on in my games :], but im still glad you enjoyed it!
it's not easy to get right, especially for smaller projects like this.
Gotta say though, that I appreciate you making status effects an essential part of combat to begin with. There's no such thing as "grinding" you just have to strategize accordingly, which beats the older style of RPG design where one hits the player with a cliff of difficulty every few hours.
Looking forward to seeing more from you!
edit: Also...what's this about a second optional fight??
that.. was fun! the battles are quite hard to an extend, the sea creatures.. oh dear that jellyfish is going to give me nightmares, but the story was nice, sweet, and the dialogues are funny! this was a hard yet fun game, keep up the good work!

I remember getting the wedding ring but not heading back and giving it to Mia and I realised when it was too late
Are you able to confirm if this is every secret or am I missing something?
besides some dialogue, u got it all, thanks for playing :-)
Kulu you may not reply but are you planning on making updates for this game like hungry lamu and also are you going to make a third game in this series
an update to seamongrel is unlikely, but we'll never know. more games for sure
thanks! For the information also good work on both games they are really creepy!
How to get to the optional Lamu fight:
what a helpful guide!
I'm not too sure what the requirements fully were, so I just retraced my journey exactly how I had before and voila!

oh backspace should be the return! but yeah i did put in secondary keys just in case this happens, sorry about that :(
I love it!
thanks for playing!
Speedrun in 3:47
pacifist run
Yep, I tried to make sure you didn't have to do any battles because doing one of the later battles first is pretty much impossible
This was a ton of fun! Well made with an interesting story. I was reckless my first playthrough so I'm very excited to go back in with a plan and take on that jelly >:)
hope to see you back kicking that jellyfish’s butt next time :-D

Found the second (or maybe first?) optional fight by accident! XD I skipped the dialogue because I thought I had already read it! Sorry!

Is Brad a nod to Lisa: the painful? Even if it's not I'm glad to see it.

tysm for making this!! <3
you’ve already done 1 of the optional fights: the turtle! but theres one more somewhere in the game…
I think I know where the second fight is! I gave the girl Brian’s wedding ring and she gave me the storage key, so it’s probably in there!
cant do anything, i cant enter the game
hi! are you trying to play the web build or the download?
web, i opened it :D. i died a few times tho :sob:
glad you got to play it :)
this is really good, would love to see more

Stupid jellyfish and its stupid evasion swim... I keep missing my attacks, including Aimed Miss, which can, ironically, MISS!

Very fun, accidentally stumbled into 2 optional fights lol
you might be the only one who’s seen the 2nd optional fight 👀
Really funny game.
good to see u, thanks for playing another one of my games!
Hi Kulu, thanks for creating this little masterpiece. May I ask if there is a way to revive Kim after she's down? Thanks
smelling salts revive a person to 50%!
do you plan on releasing any of the music anywhere? the battle tracks go hard
oh yeah! props to my gf for those! planning to drop the OST on youtube soon
i reported theres a bug that kim is down but she can fight
must’ve missed a line somewhere, thanks!

thanks for playing! i have encountered that bug in engine but havent in the actual builds, ill have to look into that!
